Following a very close contest, 'Spookyrumpus' by Tony Mitton and Guy Parker-Rees has been chosen by children in Perth & Kinross as the winner of this year’s Word’s Out! Picture Book Prize. The winners will be awarded a handsome quaich.

The Word’s Out! Picture Book Prize is awarded by Perth & Kinross Libraries and Lifelong Learning to coincide with the annual 'The Word’s Out!' festival. This is the second year of this annual award for the favourite Picture Book for Under-Sixes, as voted by Perth & Kinross children. Local children and their teachers, who are an integral part of the selection process, had a wonderful time listening to, looking at and voting from this year’s exciting shortlist.

Shortlisted Titles

  • The Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
  • Snog the Frog by Tony Bonning & Rosalind Beardshaw
  • The Big Red Bath by Julia Jarman & Adrian Reynolds
  • Mile High Apple Pie by Laura Langston & Lindsey Gardiner
  • Spookyrumpus by Tony Mitton & Guy Parker-Rees
  • On a Tall Tall Cliff by Andrew Murray & Alan Snow

Participating Schools

Children from Rattray Primary School, Morrison’s Academy Nursery, Smarty Kids, Muirton Community Nursery, Kettins Primary School, The Kindergarten, Methven, Comrie Primary School, Pitlochry High School Primary & Nursery and Friarton Nursery School all took part in this year’s selection process.
